We're excited to share that Multicurrency by Mews Payments is now live for hotels in the USA and Canada.

Following strong results in Europe, properties can start using Multicurrency to generate additional revenue while giving international guests a smoother, more familiar way to pay online.

For this launch, Multicurrency is available for online payments only. Support for terminals is on the way, which means properties will soon be able to bring this experience to more payment moments across the guest journey.

And the best part? It is included in your Mews Payments contract and will not cost extra.

Let's take a closer look.

What is Multicurrency?

Paying in a different currency can create unnecessary uncertainty for international guests. They may complete a booking at one price, only to later see unexpected bank charges or unclear exchange rates on their statement.

Multicurrency makes that experience more transparent.

When an international guest makes an online payment, they can choose to pay in their home currency before completing the transaction. Any fees are clearly displayed upfront, so there are no surprises later.

For properties, Multicurrency also creates a new revenue stream as hotels keep a share of the conversion fee that would typically go to banks.

The result is a smoother payment experience for guests and an additional revenue opportunity for your business.

Why this matters for properties in the USA and Canada

International guests expect clarity when they pay, especially when booking travel across borders. By giving them the option to pay online in a familiar currency, properties can make the payment journey feel simpler, more transparent and more guest friendly.

There is also a clear commercial opportunity.

Based on our 2025 analysis of more than 2,300 properties in Europe live with Multicurrency for at least 90 days:

  • 51% of properties covered between 5% and 17% of their Mews subscription costs through Multicurrency revenue.
  • 7% of properties covered 30% or more of their Mews subscription costs.
  • 1% of properties covered their full Mews subscription costs — and more.

So while Multicurrency improves the experience for international guests, it can also help properties offset the cost of Mews.

"Guests are noticeably happier when they can pay in their own currency. With Multicurrency, they feel more comfortable with the payment process and appreciate the transparency of knowing exactly what they are paying."
Vicki Rasmussent, Lodging Manager
