Earlier this year, Multicurrency by Mews Payments went live for online payments in the USA and Canada. It's now available on Mews Terminals too, so eligible international guests get the same choice when they pay in person, and your property can earn more from their stay.
Bring choice to payments in person
Deposits might happen online, but plenty of spending happens at the property, from checkout to upgrades to incidentals. With Multicurrency on Mews Terminals, eligible international guests can pay in their home currency or the local one when they settle up. The terminal shows the exchange rate and fee before they confirm, so they know exactly what they're agreeing to and can go with whichever they prefer.
What Multicurrency in Europe has shown us
The more international guests a property hosts, the more Multicurrency tends to matter. Across 3,477 properties live for at least 90 days between May 2025 and July 2026, more than half cut their SaaS costs, with median offsets between 2% and 10%. Properties with high Multicurrency volume saw a median reduction of 17.4%, and for those where most guests came from abroad it was 26.1%. In selected cases, the subscription was fully offset.
Results vary depending on transaction volume and international guest mix. Historical data does not guarantee future performance.
What changes at the terminal
When an international guest chooses to pay in their home currency, your property retains a share of the conversion fee. The payment posts to Mews the way it always does, so your team doesn't have to set anything up or change how they work.
Getting started
Multicurrency on Mews Terminals is available at launch to eligible properties in the USA and Canada using Mews Terminals powered by Adyen.
If you already use Multicurrency for online payments, your existing setup carries over. If it's new to your property, the option and guidance will show up in your Mews account once you're eligible.
