Hotels for Trees is a non-profit foundation that contributes directly to a greener world in which one new tree is planted each time a guest chooses to skip the daily room cleaning during multi-night stays.
The cost of planting a tree is €5.25 (tax-deductible in most European countries) and the hotel covers this cost through the savings associated with not cleaning the room.
Hotels benefit from operational savings and reduced pressure on housekeeping teams, as on average 25% of stayover guests choose to skip daily room cleaning. At the same time, the program engages employees, raises awareness among guests, increases conversion and creates a positive impact, making it both environmentally and financially rewarding.
Participation is simple. Hotels need to register on the Hotels for Trees website and complete a short onboarding process. Once the integration is activated, guests can select the skip-cleaning option during online check-in. Front office staff can offer the option directly to guests and record their choice in Mews, while housekeeping teams can log eligible skipped cleans through the Mews app when they identify a Hotels for Trees door hanger.
By completing the onboarding process and accurately recording skipped cleans, hotels ensure that every eligible room clean is converted into a newly planted tree, creating a tangible positive impact for both the environment and their guests.
