The Mews Blog > Mews is a Major Player: what the IDC MarketScape PMS Vendor Assessment means
This week, IDC released their IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Hospitality Property Management Systems 2022 Vendor Assessment (doc #US48098122, November 2022). The headline news as far as we’re concerned is that it named Mews as a Major Player.
Given that we only recently celebrated our tenth birthday as a company, to reach such a milestone on a global stage is no small achievement. At the risk of being self-congratulatory, huge kudos to the hundreds of Mewsers who have made this possible – not to mention countless partners and hoteliers who have all played their part.
What does the IDC MarketScape assessment actually mean, both for Mews and, more broadly, for hospitality? Read on to explore, or download an excerpt of the report right away if you can't bear the suspense.
IDC – International Data Corporation – is the leading global provider of market intelligence, advisory services and events across IT, telecoms and consumer technology markets. With a team of over 1,100 analysts, they’ve been providing strategic insights for 50 years. In other words, they know their stuff.
The IDC MarketScape is their comprehensive framework and parameters that assess providers relative to one another within a particular market – in this case, the world of hospitality PMSs. Each vendor is analyzed in detail, with a specific set of strengths and challenges identified.
Forget about the fact that Mews is named a Major Player in their assessment. Even if Mews wasn't featured at all, the fact that IDC has produced the IDC MarketScape report for the Hospitality PMS market is great news for hospitality.
It’s a sign that our industry is maturing, both in terms of services provided and the competitive landscape. Product offerings and ways of thinking are becoming more sophisticated, while consolidation of a historically fragmented market (there are well over 300 PMSs out there) continues. Mews has been at the forefront of this consolidation through a series of acquisitions – read more about Mews Ventures, our acquisition arm.
Mews is positioned as a Major Player in the Hospitality PMS market. More specifically, it’s our commitment to a new way of thinking that really comes to the fore.
The report describes Mews as “very well-positioned to help the hotel industry move to a model that enables hoteliers to redefine occupancy and monetize every attribute and space of a hotel”. This is exactly what we cover in our guide to Maximizing Your Property’s Full Potential.
The assessment continues: “Mews takes a holistic view of hospitality that is attractive for both small and large chains. Making the shift from a 100% occupancy to a 100% utilization mindset offers a clear path for ROI for hotels and that is enabled by the Mews product offering.”
In other words, we’re not just about great ideas. It’s also important to us that our hoteliers see tangible success across their operations, revenue and guest experience.
